Yesterday travis and i went to the evergreen community. i think every time i go i like it more. and i'm excited to get to know the people that are part of this church. i think we'll have to go to some other stuff and get to know the community. and this sunday they did something "a little different". i always like it when that phrase is said at the beginning of a service. it means i'm going to like it. it usually means more interactive stuff and more participating. wahooo!!! we focused on different types of prayers...and it was just what i needed. and the times of quiet were like music to my soul. i have been so anxious lately thinking through all of this house stuff and it was so good to sit in silence and quiet my mind and rest.
and in the afternoon we took our weekly spades game with our friends to mt tabor for a picnic. it was so much fun. and it was beautiful. i still can't believe we have this amazing nature right at our fingertips!! no wind, perfect temperature. everyone was out with their dogs enjoying the afternoon.
and we still debating about the renting/buying issue. today we are leaning towards buying something, if we find what we are looking for.

Buying is overrated - I forgot to tell you that when we talked about mortgages.
There is potential to save money while renting that you would spend on silly things at a house - garbage pickup, property taxes, extra electricity (ours went from $20 to $70 a month when we bought) Staying for a long time makes it worth it - but when you are only staying for 3-5 years, you are counting on appreciation of the property to even pay your realtor's fees, because almost 90% of the mortgage payment is going towards interest (i.e. throwing away) anyways.
Aside from Mowing lawns, weeding flower beds, painting, buying a new washer, etc. Don't mind me though, I am just jaded.
hey, i don't think you know me. i know ryan and bethany from the porch. so this is random advise i know. I study city planning and i do a lot of work with housing and community development. I think it's probably not a great idea to buy right now. One pretty simple way to look at it is to figure out what your monthly payments on a house would be and then figure out what a rental of the same size costs. Even without factoring in all of the extras that buying intails it's cheeper to rent in almost every metro area in the US. That means that buying is overpriced for the time being the prices are going to continue to inflate at the same rates that they have been (which is what you are betting on when you buy). Just an opinion, but I'd wait.
